Okay, where to start on this one. The original idea for this release goes back to July of 2005. I was lent the DAT for the first recorder and was pleasantly surprised of its quality. While the level of hiss was about the same as on all the other versions of this show that I had, this one did not have that annoying sqeaking that lurked in the background of the others. After giving a copy of the transfer to Rudy C., he did a quick speed correction of the transfer. I was very pleased with the results of this and decided that it should be released to the masses. This was August of 2005.

Unfortunately sometimes life gets in the way of hobbying, and things get pushed to the back burner and forgotten.

Sometime in February of this year while hard at work on the second DVD release for HHO, I brought up the subject of this Fillmore thing to my partner in crime Arnold_Layne. We both thought that it would be a great idea, but that the second recorder would need to be spliced in to make a complete show. God knows I did not have the time to fool around with this. This is how Rudy inevitably came back into the equation.

Rudy took the original unprocessed transfer of Recorder 1, downsampled it to 44.1KHz and spliced in the missing bits using the best copy of Recorder 2 we could find. The entire thing was speed corrected and volumes adjusted. I then took this version and smothed out the transitions further. All of the editing was done using Cool Edit Pro 2.1.

Now while this isn't perfect, some transitions are barely noticible, while some are more so. There is also some tape warble present in the first bit of 'Set The Controls' that could not be fixed. All this being said, this is the most complete and the best sounding version of this show that you are likely to find.

Now without further delay, Arnold_Layne and myself are proud to give you 'A Polished Diamond.'

Out of curiosity...is the ultimate source for this the Bill Graham tape presentied here: http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/pink-floyd/concerts/fillmore-west-april-29-1970.html? I belive that this is also the source for the Harvested release of the concert, "Intersteller Filmore".
At any rate, this is my all-time favorite Floyd concert, so I'm looking forward to hearing this version!
