The Fireman's Oakland Master

Cassette Master > PCM Beta > DAT > CDR Master
CDR > EAC > wav > flac

This recording comes directly from a known master,
taped by the same recorder who did the Hollywood Bowl
master (see, The Fireman's Tapes, Volume II).

A direct comparison with the other EX+ common roio from
this date "Mr. Pig" reveals virtually identical recordings,
certainly from the same recorder. Mr. Pig sounds like it
was boosted and EQ'd (a little too bright for my tastes),
while this recording has been untouched (levels are lower).

Harry, you have posed a fair question, since there have been 8 different versions posted in the past few days.

From what I have read, the flac24 version by MOTB is the best version. I am planning on listening to it later tonight. I have heard most of the others and I really like the 'Fireman's Oakland Master' and 'Animal Instincts Rev B' by Harvested.

Here is a link to the flac24 version:

If you lack the bandwith or equipment to play a 24 bit/96 kHz recording, then try the flac16 version posted here:

Here's an update. First, I forgot about the Cannonball label version called 'Welcome to the Machine' that I thought was smoother and less shrill than any other version, including Harvested's. Then, at last, I played the flac24 version by MOTB.

The MOTB version is a huge upgrade.

The Cannonball version sounds like its coming from smaller, tinny speakers. The MOTB has much fuller notes, more sustain. It's more natural sounding, more musical. The differences are immediately obvious and impressive.

I suggest you get the flac24 version.

I agree with mahavishnu floyd..24 bit is the way to go for best sound. I tend to take both 16 and 24 bit versions. I am addicted to music collecting though...

The sound I prefer is the raw one of the Master Reel, also posted here. But this is probably a matter of personal taste.
