This is a 16bit/44kHz version dithered in Audition 1.5 from a new 24bit/48kHz transfer of pinkrabbit1's 1971-06-05 tape. Many many thanks to pinkrabbit1 for allowing me to do a higher resolution transfer and correction of his tape. Also, please note that track 4 will now show as 10:09, 1 second longer than the 24/48 version, though the total time is of course the same. The included artwork was not modified to reflect this or the change to 16/44.

I transferred the tapes at 24bit/48kHz and removed the non-content, speed corrected, phase corrected, balanced the output throughout, and moderated some small segments of substained low frequency satuation.

This was phase shifted varying amounts throughout. Enough that when I corrected it the result was a more solid sound. This along with the speed correction and new transfer also helped tame the somewhat exaggerated highs of pinkrabbit's previous transfer. As with other versions there is some over-driven low frequencies on occasion. I only targeted the ones that were substained more than roughly two seconds, perhaps 15-20. Carefully determined where they began and ended and what specific frequencies were over-modulating and then reduced them enough so as to be less disruptive. All of these small targeted segments added up to less than 1 minute. I'd say portions of FOS and Echoes contained most of these segments. I removed one loud noise from Floyd's equipment that would have caused DNA damage to a headphone listener and repaired one channel dropout. Also made some minor gain changes to each channel throughout to balance the output where necessary. Artwork is included.

I wonder how this compares to the Harvested version?

Anyone?

Thank you for posting this. This version is said, by someone who compared both, to be better than the Harvested release called "Vierundzwanzig Teile von Nichts." I am looking forward to listening, especially since I never got the Harvested version and never heard any version of this show.

I have "Vierundzwanzig Teile von Nichts" (it translates as Twenty-four Parts of Nothing, which was a working title of Echoes), so I'm curious to find out how this compares sound-wise, myself. Thanks for sharing it, Dr.

This is like Christmas every day! Thanks so much for all the time you spend to post these fantastic early Floyd recordings! Glad it's the weekend and I'll have plenty of time to listen.

I compared Berlin Sun, Downfall and Vierundzwanzig Teile von Nichts from the same date and recorder.
To make al long story short: Berlin Sun is the worst one. Or you can say the rawest. Why? Berlin sun has no noise reduction (which leads to heavy noise) an no lowend cut or so. So its boomy and noisy. Hope that helps. Anyway, i very appriciate the afford of the recorder and upload of this site. THX

I'm the anon who raised the question at 3:39am. I downloaded and compared.

First of all Vierundzwanzig Teile von Nichts (VTvN) has more audience. It takes two minutes before CwtAE starts. BS has a audible wobble at the start of that track which though present in VTvN is much more subdued.

In general the review of Anon 3:15am is on the money

Once again I thank Dr F for posting.

Can I finish with a request. I have a corrupt copy of 1977-07-04, which I'd love to replace. I presume you are working your way through Beth's requests and perhaps this is already in the pipeline. If not please can you add it?

Thanks to Beth for translating the title. I was about to dig out my English/German dictionary!
