An evening in Paradise with the Bill Bruford Band (part 2: the late show) John Clarke- guitar Dave Stewart- keyboards Jeff Berlin- bass Bill Bruford- drums Paradise club Boston Mass. July 16, 1979 performance quality: A recording quality: B+ source: 1st generation audience tape runtime: 71:45 lineage: unknown mnicrophones (decent ones, not great) > Sony 152 cassette deck (dolby off) > master cassette > my copy (both Maxell XLII) > soundforge 4.5 > FLAC 6 > torrentially yours. setlist: 1: hell's bells 2: sample and hold 3: fainting in coils 4: forever until Sunday 5: band introductions 6: Joe Frazier 7: ? 8: beezelbub 9: ? 10: ? comments: this is the complete late show, the tape was flipped between songs and it is a nice recording, not quite as good as the Boston 1980 early show, better than the early show this night. All 3 of these shows are very good shows and sound quality. Not much difference between the 2 '79 sets, if you are a fan of Bill you'll enjoy them all. One of my alltime favorite drummers, not sure why I didn't make it to either of the 79 shows. (probably lack of funds) Lots of nice music from BBB's 1st album here, Feels Good to Me. It will feel and sound good to you here, so have a listen to a master drummer on his 1st tour as the bandleader. John Clarke does have some Holdsworth style to his playing here, (sortakinda, he's diffferent and good too) it's a high energy inspired performance for the band, this show added after the 1st one by popular demand. The same happened in 1980, but I have yet to hear any recording of Boston 1980 late show. Not sure if this one sold out, the 1st one did, plenty of band and crowd enthusiasm left for the late set. Not much crowd noise on this recording, the Paradise only holds about 600 people (crammed full) and you can hear alot more of them in both my other BBB torrents than here. Do not sell this recording (Bruford has bills to pay too)
Track 7 should be "Travels with Myself and Someone Else" Track 9 "The Sahara of Snow" (with a funny intro) Track 10 "Manacles" A Steward/Bruford tune which was only played live. The middle/end part (mostly drums and bass) is by Bruford and has been recycled by Fripp in an (un)famous King Crimson tune... A version of "Manacles" is one of the bonus in the remaster series available on winterforld. Thanks
