Here's another example (sent in by a reader) of the humble cone finding a home in popular culture... "Capping the statue with a traffic cone has become a traditional practise in Glasgow. Claimed to represent the humor of the local population and believed to date back to the first half of the 1980s if not before. The Duke of Wellington statue has had a cone on his head for as long as I can remember. When the cone is removed someone else will just add a cone."

Road construction season is about to start around here. I'll have to keep my eyes out for some amusing things that always seem to be done by bored/stuck drivers.
