Robyn Hitchcock - So You Think You're In Love

Here is a video that was shown on MTV a bunch of times, but, for whatever weird reason, was never released commercially.  This version was taken from a high quality U-matic tape.

I've never seen this before. Hopefully I'll get it this weekend. Thanks. And speaking of musicians who are not easy to be around (such as the lady mentioned in the vids post below this one)... as you know, I'm a huge fan of Robyn's music. On three occasions we have caught up and talked. I found him to be quite unpleasant each time. Not so much a bad mood, more very guarded and nervous, not even knowing what to say. In contrast, Andy, his bass player at the time (also for Squeeze; that's him on the top right in the vidcap up there) sat at a table with my wife and I, and we talked from the end of a soundcheck straight up to the show. They played Roxy Music's "More Than This" which was amazing, then didn't play it during the show... go figure!

Yeah... I know what you mean. I have had a chance to talk with Robyn several times. Although he was nice enough to me, I have seen him be quite terse with other people. I asked him to sign a promo CD once upon a time. He did, but seemed very put off.

The first time that I ever met the man, I had no idea who he was. I was wearing a Syd Barrett T-shirt and was hanging out in a deli prior to a show. He walked up to me (wearing a lime green, fuzzy coat) and said in a loud crazy voice, "BEWARE OF SYD BARRETT!!!"

What can I say? I've been a fan ever since.

That's hilarious! I had Robyn sign the inside cover of The Kershaw Sessions. Between the two crabs, he wrote Robyn H.

Two people I figured would be difficult to talk with, weren't: Lydia Lunch and Glenn Danzig. Both were quite friendly (Glenn on two separate occasions; even drawing a Misfits-style cartoon on the white side of his Circle of Snakes back cover for my daughter).

But the all-time best are Chris and Tina (Talking Heads/Tom Tom Club). We've been friends for years and even do phone occasionally. My ex did the cover art for their Genius of Live CD. Once, after a TTC gig years ago, I was helping Chris load some mics and stuff into their Lexus, and asked him if he had ever heard Ofra Haza's music. His answer blew me away: she had stayed at their place for a while (they have a recording studio in the garage) and recorded a CD for her that was never released! I asked him what she was like to be around every day. He said that she was very moody and you had to just feel where she was coming from on any given day and just go with the flow.

The other best (for me) was the German composer Karl Stockhausen. We became friends in 1977 and stayed in touch until his death in 2007. He was always sending me concert posters and autographed CDs, all kinds of cool stuff (all of which I have kept stored). We finally met in November 2011 in Amsterdam at a rehearsal/concert. He seemed more excited to meet me in person than I was about him lol. After an intermission, he had my wife and I sit next to him, while he sat at his mixing board with his eyes closed constantly tweaking everything live. I've never seen anything like it, with the exception of Joe Satriani playing super-fast and never bothering to even look at the guitar's fretboard. Stockhausen and that board were literally One. I guess he had memorized every knob and fader! After the concert, Stockhausen, Suzee Stephens, Kathinka Pasveer, and my wife and I stood in the lobby talking about all kinds of stuff. Very cool people. :)

Drat! Somehow, it's not available anymore.

I saw this on TV when it was first released, and every so often I get a flea in my ear about wanting to see the video that many Hitchcock fans don't even know exists.
