a very good audience recording from the second of two nights of
brain salad surgery in the Big Apple Garden.
I do not know if this recording is complete although all the
songs in here seem to be complete.
levels were balanced out and some loud clap reduction applied to
the CD copy I got of this, and a few abrupt ends between songs were
spliced to make those track transitions smoother.
I don't know who made this recording but my thanks and compliments
go out to him (or her). whoever recorded this did a nice job.
so did ELP, this was a fine performance, just a week before Christmas.
people have been known to travel from all over the world to get
brain surgery (if needed) in New York (from a doctor)
it is known for having some very fine medical facilities.
some even went there to get brain SALAD surgery, in "the entertainment
capital of the world" as many New Yorkers like to call their biggest city.
Enough so that once was not good enough, they had to do it twice in NYC.
(and another show a few days earlier at Nassau a/k/a Nausea Coliseum on
Long Island)
nobody delivers that any better than ELP. this is one of the better
shows I've heard from the Brain Salad Surgery tour, and unlike some of
the 73 and 74 shows, seems to include the full Karn Evil #9 sequence.
thanks very much to bilbo74 for sharing this with me to share with you.

Good doctor, i am loving the recent ELP posts... especially the vintage 1972/1973 shows.

I downloaded both NYC MSG shows and they are identical - meaning that they are the both the Dec 17, 1973 show.

The one you have labelled as Dec 18th is the clearer sounding copy, while the one you have labelled as Dec 17th runs slower and is muddier.

According to what I have read they only did the 'silent night' section in pictures on the 17th.

every introduction is identical and lots of incidental 'tuning' noises in various parts, so I know that these are both the same show.. but the one you have labelled Dec 18th is the one to keep as it is much clearer and runs at the correct pitch.

thanks again for posting and sharing, these are shows that I was too young to attend at the time and am able to enjoy them now, thanks to you, the internet and the wonderful people who taped them.

thanks again... you rock :)
