Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band live at the Rainbow Theatre 17.4.73
This tape hasn't been circulated as far as I can recall. Anyway this is from the master cassette recorded onto a high quality reel-to-reel at 3.5 ins per sec at the time. It was quite nerveracking smuggling a recorder into the Rainbow as security was quite high fuelled by bootleg albums being sold by a certain Mr.Virgin at his shop in central London. I had difficulty setting the record level and towards the end of the show the tape suffers a little distortion due to the sound level going up in the theatre. Being a big Mothers/Zappa fan this was concert to see although I wish I'd seen them a couple of years earlier when I think they almost filled the Albert Hall. Being young and impressionable Beefheart seemed to have great charisma and easily wooed the audience. I remember it as a great event. Hope you enjoy the recording.
