Beyond The Wildwood

From way back in 1987... This CD was available long before Syd's official albums came out on CD - so was the first time that I'd heard several of the songs. This is still my favorite version of "Rats" of all time. I have seen the LP version for sale on eBay a few times. But, the CD version is ... well, very rare.

I don't know about "very rare," as there were plenty of copies at retail when I bought the CD upon its release. Seems unlikely that thousands of those copies just vanished. One of the better tribute albums of that whole trend of tribute albums (and one of the earlier ones). The tribute-album trend quickly became a ghetto for bad cover versions by people you never heard of and would never hear again, although the Beefheart and 13th Floor Elevators tributes were pretty good.

Imaginary Records seemed to specialise in tribute albums and some of them were very good. This one has some very good moments - the versions of "No Good Trying" and "Scream Thay Last Scream" alone are worth the price of admission.
