Gandalf Murphy - Live In New Jersey - 15-Aug-08

These guys are the single greatest band touring today. Speaking of today, a concert was broadcast on WNTI earlier this evening. In the amazingly unlikely event that you did not tune in, I have taken the liberty of preserving the .mp3 stream for you here.

I know how much you appreciate floyd and I respect you immensely for it - that being said, I couldn't get into these guys really from the songs I heard on their website - any recommendations to get me started?

Thanks for the great music, as always.

About Gandalf Murphy, probably their most Floydian piece is called Flapjacks From The Sky. It's about a child being visited by UFOs. Of course, it's about more than that.... But, it should be enough to get you started. GM's newest "single" is called Tink - from Peter Pan - and features some absolutely astonishing guitar & mandolin. Have you ever seen anyone use a slide on a mandolin before ? The fret is only about 6 inches long... Unbelievable to watch live.

About Surprise Party - yes - it exists, I have it, and will eventually get around to posting the DVD that contains it. I just haven't gotten to it yet. Sorry. More people download the audio than the video - probably it's to do with the number of parts - so I have been trying to keep a happy balance.

Dr. F,

Thank you for all the PF posts. And thanks for introducing me to Gandalf Murphy! I've been listening to them for a couple months now. And just last weekend I had a chance to see them live in Berkeley. What a show! I can't wait to see them again. :)
