Interviewer, Eric Lehmann with David Gilmour
Just before Montreux show - Interview dated 1970-12-15.

Interview :

Eric Lehmann : ... Lorsque vous voyez 20000, 30000, 40000 jeunes venir voir Pink Floyd...
David Gilmour : Je sais pas, ça...

Eric Lehmann : Vous avez le sentiment qu'ils viennent pour vous ?
ou ils viennent pour écouter simplement de la musique POP, pour un grand rassemblement ?
David Gilmour : Ils viennent pour beaucoup de chose.

Eric Lehmann : Vous connaissez quelque unes des raisons qui font qu'ils se déplacent ?
David Gilmour : Oh oui, ils aiment la musique, ils veulent.... ils veulent venir et être dans une foule, des gens
avec 20000 personnes "esprits" ensembles.

Eric Lehmann : On dit que c'est une musique de contestation, qui rassemble les gens qui ont mes mêmes idées.
David Gilmour : En fait, je ne veux pas... nous ne pouvons pas faire grand chose de politique dans l'orchestre,
par ce que lorsque l'on fait quelque chose qui à a faire avec la politique, ça doit être les 4 gens
qui pensent le même. Et nous sommes 4 gens qui pensent complétement différent sur presque tout...
le... nous n'avons pas du tout les mêmes idées sur la politique, alors on ne peut pas faire des trucs politique
parce que... parce que on est un orchestre, on est Pink Floyd, quand on fait quelque chose ça doit être Pink Floyd.
Et si c'est... il y a des gens qui pensent pas quelques choses, et des gens qui pensent quelques choses, alors
on ne peut pas le faire... Mais personnellement, chacun nous pouvons faire... on peut dire se que l'on veut
sur la politique. C'est ce que l'on croit, mais parce que nous sommes tous différent, c'est très difficile
de faire comme un orchestre... [drinking].... [end]


Translation :

Eric Lehmann : When you see 20 000, 30 000, 40 000 people come to see Pink Floyd...
David Gilmour : I don't know, it's...

Eric Lehmann : You have the feeling that people come to see you ?
Or people come to hear only POP music , for a large happenning ?
David Gilmour : People come for many things.

Eric Lehmann : You know some of the reasons why they come ?
David Gilmour : Oh yes, they love music, they want... they want and come to be in a crew, together with other 20 0000 'spirits'.

Eric Lehmann : It is says, that this is a protesting music, witch gather people with same ideas.
David Gilmour : In fact, I can't... We can't do something politic, it must be 4 members who think the same thing.
And we are 4 members witch witch think totaly different things on mostly every thing...
The... we haven't got the same politic's opinions, then we can't do things politic, because we are a band (orchestra),
we are Pink Floyd, when we do something, it must be Pink Floyd. So we can't do it...
And if it's... They are members thinking something, and others thinking differently, when we can't do it...
But, personnaly, each member can do... We can say what we want about politic. That's what we think, but because
we are all different, it not easy to do it in the band... [drinking]...[end]
