As mentioned very similar to djcosmics and his association with Dan Lampinski, I would like to introduce you to a good friend. He also has shared the same passion of recording shows WAY before this website. HE is a local DIME member who has recorded, by himself, over hundreds of shows. He occassionally trades them over the years, and some have surfaced onto the Dime uploads. Upon an invite, I went and met him personally. I had a chance to look at his shows. Needless to say, this was nowhere near an exaggeration.
I offered to borrow these shows and convert them from analog to digital to preserve, protect, and store these shows. He has trusted me with these cassettes, and permit me to post these as uploads for all to hear. The shows come from personal recordings, FM broadcasts, and traded shows.
May I present to you another recording from kylieminogue in digital format:
Lineage:
Analog transfer:
Original Recorded Cassette (REALISTIC 90 minutes) Onkyo TA-RW255 Dual Stereo Cassette Tape Deck Playback at normal speed and Dolby NR at setting "B" Stereo Out Coaxial Cable merged into 1/8" breakout cable female adapter (3 Pin XLR for Preamp)
Digital Conversion:
Mic2496 V2 Portable Mic Pre-amp/A-to-D Converter (coax out) into Core Sound High Resolution Coaxial Cable (1') M-Audio's MicroTrack II Professional 2-Channel Mobile Digital Recorder (into SPDIF)
Recorded in 96khz/24 bit 2 channel stereo All editing done with Adobe Audition 3.0.1 (patch for Vista) EQ with multiband compression (snare chunk) and special 30 band EQ to bring out singer and synthsizer and to reduce crowd. For 44K version a direct conversion done through Adobe Audition WAV files converted to FLAC 6 via Traders Little Helper Files torrented will be done thru traders little helper onto uTorrent.
COMMENTS:
EQ to music is like plastic surgery to people. If you try to keep the procedure simple, it looks good. BUT if you do too much, it will look like Michael Jackson.
So true as it petains to this recording. This was my 4th attempt trying to get this to you. I tried to "keep it simple", but the recording needed some work.
I assume that Kylie's seats were high up and away from the stack. This recording had quite a bit of crowd in between the band and his microphone. Also the master recording sounds like it was "tunnelled" due to his position.
The recording started out a little hot and some slight high end distortion. I tried to shave it slightly but also to bring in the lows (bass). The bass is incredible live. I felt the rumbling as I listened to it on my iPod. Therefore, I needed to bring out more David Gilmour's voice and more bass/keyboards. Thus I used snare chunk to keep percussion as crisp as possible.
I understand that EQ is in the ear of the holder. However, this is a good concert to let go to waste.
The beginning of the show is okay in quality. As the crowd settles and the instrumentals keep them down, quiet, and seated, the recording becomes very good. I think the end of the show (last hour) is very very good.
There is some minimal intial cassette fluxuation of sound secondary to usage over the years.
So without further delay, may I present to you Pink Floyd.......
