I got this one form the kindly guys the torrent.genesis-movement.org (thnks Simon for your own existence!), originally uploaded by kaspergm (thanx kasp!).
Hope you'll enjoy.
Here the original liner notes.
By now, it’s some time ago the GASP team released the dual OAM/SB recording from Civic Plaza Assembly Hall, Phoenix, 28.01.75 [note from the uploader: you can find them here: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=177673]. Back then, I made some vague comment that someone should make a matrix of the two, without downloading the recordings back then, not being much of a Lamb enthusiast myself. Anyway, as it happened, I recently came across the Phoenix board in another contest, and I was surprised how good it actually was – and, ever curious to try something new, I thought, why not revisit the idea of a matrix remaster of the two sources. This, basically, brings us up to FL07, which I here offer you with some pride and a lot of excitement.
Because I must say, this recording is completely awesome. Not only in terms of sound quality – which is excellent, but not flawless, comments on that below – but also in terms of performance: This is probably the best Lamb performance I’ve yet heard, Peter is in absolutely amazing shape throughout the show, and it’s a delight to hear how strong his vocals are on tracks like Counting Out Time, Chamber Of 32 Doors and The Colony Of Slippermen (when he does not forget the lyric and/or his timing, as is the case more than once – I guess that’s part of the charm). Also worth a note is Peter’s story between the tracks – he strikes me as particularly hilarious this night, the Story Of Rael part II features an absolutely wonderful section on Rael’s encounter with Death [who is wearing one of those costumes he so beautifully designs himself].
As for the sources and sound quality, I have a few comments to make. This is the first time I ever tried something like doing a matrix between two recordings, and my approach was completely trial-and-error – hence, you must bear with me, if anybody more experienced could have accomplished something better. That being said, I was surprised how well the two recordings matched up – after doing the proper speed correction of the OAM source, which was consistently 2.5 – 3 % too slow throughout the show – the were in perfect pitch. The full – and I mean, full – credit for this lies with the GASP team, and more than anything, working on this project made me realize how much we owe to these guys. Anybody who have been in Genesis bootleg collecting for just 10 years like me – or for even longer – will know of the tremendous, literally explosive, growth in available quality bootlegs we have seen over the last couple of years – and practically all of them have some sort of connection to the GASP team, or members of it. These guys deserve all our love!

Back on track – there are issues with this. Speedy comments on the OAM that there are overload issues with the first tracks, and this is also the case with the SB source. Up to the first third of Back In N.Y.C., you will hear various effects of distortion, overload, stereo level changes, etc. During the first part of Back In N.Y.C., however, following a short fall-out of the right channel, quality increases a lot as bass levels are adjusted, and the remaining part of the SB source has an admirable clarity and stereo separation found in few raw board cuts – particularly of this age. Issues remaining include a few stereo fall-outs, an occasional pop, and a break in The Waiting Room (tape change I assume). Also, both sources lack the beginning of Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, and if a second encore of Watcher Of The Skies was played, neither source caries any proof of this.
The OAM source fairs less well, sadly, making sometimes the result of the matrix approach less evident. Throughout the show, there are serious stereo balance issues – before Waiting Room break, left channel is much louder, after, right channel is louder. Audience feedback is dramatically different in the two channels – left channel has some audience member standing very close going through a lot, with distinct single claps and more than on occasional whistle also. Right channel is much more distant, and generally features a more uniform – but less loud – audience feedback. The is a gap in Waiting Room matching the one on the SB source, and curiously, a long instrumental prelude to The Lamia is completely lacking from the OAM source.
This recording attempts to combine the two sources to give the best audio experience and also give the audience-is-present impression which is lost on the raw soundboard cut. Both sources have been remastered from the GASP source to meet my personal preferences. OAM source is mainly dominant in story sections and audience sections between tracks, but have also occasionally been mixed in during longer or shorter parts of the actual songs, if I felt this added to the audio. This is particularly the case in the more quiet sections.
As for other things I’ve done, I can mention the following:
- Elaborate stereo channel fixes to give a better, more balanced, stereo impression.
- Restoration of intro for Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. This intro is “fictional”, i.e. build from pieces of existing audio in the show, rather than adding a patch from another show, which always gives a more heterogeneous result.
- The Waiting Room has been spliced through cross fade rather than adding a patch due to the same reasons as above. This actually makes this version of The Waiting Room slightly shorter than the two parts available on the source, but this gave by far the most satisfactory result.
As for the result, I must admit I’m really pleased with this one. Personally, I find it to sound awesome! There may be better sounding soundboard sources from this tour (though I can’t think of any right away!), but considering the quality of the performance also, I think this will remain my favoured Lamb recording for a good long time. I hope you’ll enjoy it as well!

Excellent work I am very grateful for all this unique prog music from the 70's. ELP and Genesis stuff is amazing. Just found your blog two weeks ago. Great Bruford and ABWH stuff too.
The matrix sounds really great. so thank you for sharing this one. Best, Kike.
