Johnny Winter .... June 25, 1993 Ontario Place, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Johnny Winter - Guitar, vocals Jeff Ganz - Bass Tom Compton - Drums
Torrent size: 7 tracks; 69:28 minutes; ~447MB flacs, etc. Quality: ex AUD (3rd gen) Source: AUD (cassette tape, 3rd gen)> CDR> (wav) EAC (secure mode)> (flac) Flac Frontend level 6 (align on sector boundaries) Artwork: none. Transfer: Francisco Silva (Brasil), from JAJ's (roryglzep) tape. Thank You!!
Francisco's comments: - excellent audience recording with a marvelous atmosphere; you feel like you're there! - after a quickie sen-sa-shun (only 6 minutes) and a "normal" "she likes...", the boys have turned on and deliver a STELLAR performance. The best "hard way" version I've listened and beautiful "you keep saying...". Energetic, but the short, versions of "johnny guitar" and "you're humbugging me".
Setlist:
1. sen-sa-shun 2. she likes to boogie real low 3. hard way 4. you keep saying that you are leaving 5. turn on your love light [vocal by Mighty Jeff Ganz - another wonder. By the "bass & guitar duel", Johnny and Jeff trade licks on some Beatles songs!] 6. johnny guitar 7. you're humbugging me [cut out in the very last seconds]
From: http://www.yee.ch/winter/winter_timeline_1993.html Mike remembers: That Ontario Place show was one of the best I've ever seen. Otis Rush opened, and John Mayall w/Coco Montoya were second and then Johnny came on. They had screwed up the seating since Johnny had requested that the normally rotating stage be stopped- it's a cool idea. The outdoor venue is round and under a round roof and with the stage rotating, it means that you have a good seat at least 1/4 of the time, but Johnny didn't want it, maybe due to eyesight issues. At any rate, just as Johnny came on a real storm came up and he kept talking to someone on the side as he was playing. We were all a bit worried that he was going to cancel - there was a big stream of water pouring over the electrical feeds and there was lots of lightning - good time to be "unplugged". Anyway, he kept at it and it's something I'd love to have on video - Johnny playing his ass off and the lightning flashing behind him made it a real feast for the eyes too! I didn't bring a recorder but should have. I've been searched at other Johnny Winter shows for knives, drugs, cameras and recorders and figured that they'd do the same at Ontario Place, but, it being Ontario, they were only interested in seizing alcohol.
