This is a Doinker tape. That's a name that means quality. And, I have to say, it is an incredible tape. However, it is shorter than another outstanding tape that I shared earlier. Get'em both & compare. There are so many worse ways to spend an afternoon...

Pink Floyd - 1972-02-17 - Rainbow Theatre

Someone ripped two different versions of this show & packaged them together. So, you'll get 4 CDs = the entire concert twice. These are the Ayanami and STTP releases.

Rainbows

I recently ran across a guy who told me that he was a member of the "Friends Of Dorothy". I told him that I consider myself to be fairly wise in the ways of the world, but I'd never heard of that group. He told me that he was "Over The Rainbow", but, he said, "not the one that Jim Henson used to sing about." When I got home, I did some work on Google & cyphered it all out. So, there's no need for you to leave comments explaining it.

That said, I thought one way of relating the situation to our favorite band is to share a bunch of recordings made at the Rainbow Theater. It was also, coincidentally, during Mr. Henson's prime, although I'm pretty sure that would be a different group of people entirely.

Lean back, relax, and enjoy a few excellent early Dark Side shows....

Traffic Cone Preservation Society

This is one of the most brilliant sites I have ever seen. Stunning, stunning work that will remain appropriate and socially relevant for generations to come. This is something that you will want to share with your grandchildren.

Credit Where Credit Is Due

I wanted to clarify just how much we owe to one particular collector who (in 2007) allowed the most extraordinary access to his collection. All of the shows that have Psychedelic Closet cover art came from rips of his pre-FM CDs. All of the shows from the mid 1980s that come with scans of labels and cue sheets come from his pre-FM vinyl. The vinyl were all transferred to digital by A_L.

Thanks for letting us all ride in your blimp!

Syd Barrett Interview

Did you guys know that there is a Syd Barrett interview available for one dollar? How cool is that? Imagine how much this guy might've gotten for his tape on eBay. Instead, he's sharing for next to nothing.

Grab it, listen to it, and try to decide whom is the highest - the interviewer or interviewee.

Phil Manzanera hosted a radio series about various guitar greats. Phil played two Gilmour songs & talked about how they were recorded, working with Dave, and so forth. It's a great show!

Duggie Fields - 2004-01-23 - Syd's Room

For those who are not aware, Duggie Fields is a former roommate of Syd Barrett's. In fact, Mr. Fields still lives in the flat that he used to share with Mr. Barrett. It's a very nice, intimate interview.

The Interviews

I first started this blog back in 2008 because I wanted a place in which I could share the various radio shows that I love. There are really a few different types -

1) radio people decide to play 2 or 3 hours of Pink Floyd music while discussing the band. No new interviews or music.

2) band members record interview segments to promote an album release or anniversary or that sort of thing.

3) live broadcast on the radio of some event or concert. No real band member interviews or direct involvement, but the music is typically new & good quality.

The links for all of the radio shows are dead - and have been dead for quite a long time. When assembling the pieces to re-post them, I had to decide what things to include and what things to exclude based on the above categories. In the end, I decided to just do whatever I felt like doing. So - Good Luck!

Many of these shows are internet stream captures. This is because they apparently weren't captured in good quality off-air & shared by anyone in that particular local market. I tried to stay on top of things for Gilmour's solo tour. I always tried to make sure that I grabbed the internet stream. Obviously, where I have multiple sources for shows, I will be sharing the superior source. If you have a superior source that I do not have - please don't be shy!!

There will be radio shows for each band member as well as several associates. I will probably include a lot of links to the original posts for these shows, as there are often images or links that might be helpful. These shows are a lot of fun. Be careful or you just might learn something!

Make Good Choices, People

Young Lust - Italian misprint

It turns out that a single released in Italy somehow was issued with a pre-production version of Young Lust. I would not say that it's a different "mix" or a "demo"; it is clearly the same song, just earlier in the editing process. This single was tracked down & transferred by the good folks over at Pigs On The Wing.

Digital Reproductions

This is another label that I know very little about, except to say that I have always enjoyed their work. Here are a few recent examples -

1971-11-16 - Something from Nothing
1974-11-28 - Liverpool, England
1977-07-02 - In A Pig's Eye
1994-09-13 - A Passage of Time

Pink Floyd - 1975-04-26 - Echoes From The Past

I do not have the SCS version of this concert. However, I do have the version from Digital Reproductions. This is also a nice segue into our next RoIO label.
