Two More

Here

These are a a few other relatively random high quality videos from "alternative" rockers from the mid 1990s.  The Beth Hart video took me a little time to understand and accept.  Now, I find it really quite powerful.  I showed it to a friend who I thought would really dig it.  Turned out, it was very much the same story as with myself - too much too quickly.  It starts out as a really depressing story, but ends in redemption and joy.  So, if you do decide to give it a view, you might skip to the end rather than giving up.  B-)

The Belly video is a great psychedelic whirlwind.

Jewel - High Quality Videos

Here

** The gentleman in the second image is named Steve Poltz.  He's quite a character.  I first met him when his original band, The Rugburns, were playing a gig with Robyn Hitchcock at a club called The Magic Stick in the Detroit area.  Very, very unfortunately, it seems that all of the Rugburns' albums are currently unavailable.  During the show that I saw, the drummer spent some time running around the audience with a running chainsaw.  Oh, and they made up a song about an audience member being a pedophile after he tried to heckle them.  I laughed & laughed.

Both Steve & Jewel seemed, to me, to be genuinely nice people.  It's a shame that they're no longer together.  But, they shared some amazing adventures that they both tell with very little prompting.  So, maybe that's the most important thing.

Robyn Hitchcock - So You Think You're In Love

Here is a video that was shown on MTV a bunch of times, but, for whatever weird reason, was never released commercially.  This version was taken from a high quality U-matic tape.

High Quality Videos

Here are three more videos from high-quality U-matic tape sources. The band was one of my favorites during my younger years. The lead singer broke off from the rest of the band. One video is from the band without the original singer. One is from a solo effort... and one is a song that was supposed to be released, but got yanked back at the last moment. A few copies of the album with the song leaked out, so keep an eye peeled. None of these videos has ever seen an official release so far as I know.

Went to see a solo concert a few years back. The singer stopped the show - several times - to yell at the audience. It was terribly unprofessional. She directed one volley at me, personally, for - this is true - having the audacity to drink a soda in front of my child. (She said, "What kind of example are you setting, drinking that sugar water in front of your child?!?") I just smiled & waved. Turns out that she's one hell of a singer - but a stark raving looney in real life. She will never be asked back to that venue. I checked.

This is, as far as we have been able to determine, a previously uncirculated film. It was taken from the camera master to a home DVD recorder. There is no menu. Please see the comments for the links. Many, many thanks to the wonderful person who kindly shared this with us all.

Gandalf Murphy - 2011-06-23 - Acorn Theater

Please see the comments for the links.

This was a wonderful venue in Three Oaks, MI. The band got a little playful, performing some of their rarely-played-live material such as a cover of Yellow Submarine (Beatles). Mostly, though, this is material from their latest album, "The Grand Slambovians". The film is up close, unobstructed, and sounds great.

Gandalf Murphy - 2010-07-15 - Vestal, NY

Please see the comments for the links.

This is a great introductory film for anyone who is looking for a gentle way inside. Amazing quality! One of my favorite moments in this film is the mash-up of Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison Blues with Pinball Wizard by The Who. Another tune to keep an open eye out for is called "The Great Unravel". This is a *wonderful* performance.

Gandalf Murphy - 2011-06-25 - Hayward WI

Please see the comments for the links.

This show was filmed from the second or third row. The theater in Hayward is a converted movie theater, so the seating is on an incline, which is absolutely perfect. I made the 10 hour drive three times to Hayward to see Gandalf Murphy there. The last time, it happened to be during their local festival. Hayward is also the home of the North American Fishing Hall of Fame. It's a strange place. B-)
